THE DEVIL'S PULPIT

When Chris Haney and Scott Abbott, co-inventors of board-game sensation Trivial Pursuit™, began to plan Devil's Pulpit, they envisioned a course that would compare with anything in the world.

Chris, Scott and architect Michael Hurdzan were determined to build a thrilling, unforgettable course that could play differently almost every day, and they were not about to let conventional thinking or their budget get in the way.

Upon opening in 1990, Devil's Pulpit was widely acclaimed as an earth sculpture that broadened traditional notions of golf course design. In naming named Devil's Pulpit the Best New Canadian Course of 1991, Golf Digest lavished the course with praise for its scenery and spectacular setting on 315 acres on the Niagara Escarpment.

Devil's Pulpit defines all that's exciting in modern golf design, providing strategic challenge, rambunctious topography, wondrous natural beauty and imaginative features.

The first hole says volumes about Devil's Pulpit. A 478-yard par 4, No. 1 starts with a stunning view from an elevated tee that plummets to a double-fairway framed by bold contours, giant bunkers and a lake.

The course does not let up, plunging into leafy valleys, winding through spectacular mounds and across sparkling ponds to multi-tiered green complexes.

The Pulpit provides golfers with a diversity of choice and challenge that makes a golf game an experience. On three holes you can choose which fairway to play. No. 11 has three playing options–South, East or West. (Yes, there are three No. 11s). Each golf hole has a minimum of six sets of tee blocks, which ensures the course plays differently every day.

The Pulpit is bold and exciting, but provides a range of fairness and challenge to ensure golfers of all abilities enjoy themselves.

After their round, golfers can kick back in the well-appointed Pulpit clubhouse which offers the essential amenities of a first-class golf experience, as well as whirlpools and a swimming pool. The Pulpit's Horn Bar has the best view and the longest bar of any golf club in Canada.

You can experience the best of modern North American aerial-and-target golf at the Pulpit, and relish in the challenges of the bump-and-run ground game at its old-world cousin, links-style Paintbrush. Together, the Paintbrush and Pulpit comprise "the best two-course golf club in the world," says respected U.S. architect Rees Jones.
